Scaling of anisotropic flow in the picture of quark coalescence The measurement of anisotropic flow in high energy heavy ion reactions reveals insight into the early stage of the collision process. While the results for elliptic flow v2 at low transverse momentum pt agree very well with hydrodynamic model calculations, at intermediate pt a meson-baryon scaling is observed. This is expected from quark coalescence models and points to the intrinsic quark flow of the system. If quark coalescence indeed is the dominant production mechanism in this pt-region, a similar scaling behavior is expected for the measurements of higher harmonics, like v4. Recent measurements and their implications for the validity of quark coalescence models will be presented.
