Energy dependence of hyperon production from NA49 Recent results on hyperon production in central Pb+Pb Collisions at 20, 30, 40, 80 and 158 GeV obtained by NA49 at the CERN-SPS will be presented and compared to the results at lower (AGS) and higher (RHIC) energies. The results will be compared to the predictions of models which do not assume deconfinement phase transition, like string hadronic models and hadron gas model. Finally their relation to the hypothesis of the onset of deconfinement at low SPS energies will be discussed.
